These nutrient-rich larvae are an optimal and varied treat for your animals and support their health with important nutrients.
Discover the benefits of our live black soldier fly larvae:
Why are they sustainable? The answer lies in the nature of the black soldier fly larvae themselves. These insects are extremely efficient at converting organic matter into protein-rich feed. By using black soldier fly larvae as a food source, we help close cycles and minimize the ecological footprint.

Benefits of live insects?
- Encourages natural hunting behavior: Live larvae stimulate hunting and prey-catching behavior and are particularly beneficial for predators such as reptiles and birds.
- Mental and physical stimulation: Hunting live prey promotes cognitive abilities and motor skills. It contributes to stress reduction and general mental stimulation.
- Improved hydration: Live larvae contain more moisture, contributing to better hydration for animals that need additional fluids.
- Species-appropriate nutrition: Live larvae match the natural food source in the wild and promote species-appropriate feeding.
- Unprocessed nutrients: In their natural state, the larvae provide valuable proteins, fats and vitamins that are especially nourishing for animals.
- Higher acceptance: Many animals prefer live prey due to their natural instinct, which increases food intake even with picky animals.
Feeding recommendation:
- No preparation needed: Live larvae do not need to be prepared or cut. They can simply be offered in their natural form.
- Observe reactions: Watch how your animal deals with the live larvae. If it has trouble catching them, smaller portions or more accessible feeding options may be needed.
- Remove leftover larvae: If your animal doesn’t eat all the larvae, remove the remaining ones after feeding to avoid hygiene issues or mold.
Storage notes:
- Transfer & wake up: Transfer larvae from the packaging into a larger container and let them wake up at room temperature (can take up to 12 hours).
- Optimal temperature: Store the larvae at 4°C to 15°C. Cool temperatures slow their activity. Store live larvae in a cool area (ideally in the fridge), but never in the freezer.
- Prepupal stage: When the larvae turn brown/black they are in the prepupal stage. They no longer eat, but are still suitable for feeding.
- Pupal stage: Stiff prepupae develop into flies that can also be fed, but are less nutrient-rich. We therefore recommend feeding them at the larval stage.
