Description
Description
Live house crickets from our Bremen breeding – fresh, vital and the perfect protein source for reptiles, birds, fish and exotics.
Our house crickets (Acheta domesticus) are made in Germany and arrive alive and lively. They are rich in high-quality protein, easy to digest – even for sensitive animals – and free from pollutants and pesticides.
Available in three sizes: small, medium (subadult) and large (adult).
Important note
Intended as a complementary feed – not as a complete feed.
Which animals is it suitable for?
- Birds: blackbirds, tits, robins, woodpeckers, wrens, canaries, zebra finches
- Chickens: Lohmann Brown, Sussex, silkies, bantam Cochins and hardy breeds such as Marans
- Fish: koi carp, goldfish, trout, catfish, perch, sunfish, killifish
- Reptiles: geckos, bearded dragons, spiny-tailed lizards, chameleons, monitor lizards, tortoises
- Wildlife: foxes, hedgehogs, raccoons
Feeding recommendation
- Make sure the diet is varied and the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio balanced – especially for reptiles and juveniles. Feeding the crickets well before you offer them (gut loading) further improves their nutritional quality.
- You can place the crickets straight into the terrarium or enclosure.
- Do not add too many at once, so that all of them are eaten and none are left running around and stressing your animal.
- Remove uneaten crickets after a while.
Benefits of live crickets
- High-quality nutrient source: the high protein content supports muscle development and well-being.
- Natural food: encourages hunting and feeding behaviour and is essential for keeping reptiles appropriately.
- Vitamins and minerals: supply essential nutrients for a balanced diet.
- More activity: hunting moving prey keeps your animals fit and healthy.
Storage and care
- Keep the crickets in a well-ventilated box or cricket container at 20–25 °C.
- Add a piece of egg carton or cardboard as a hiding place.
- Before feeding, provide fruit, vegetables or special feed (gut loading) to optimise their nutrient content.
- Offer moisture via pieces of carrot or a damp sponge – crickets drown in open water bowls.
- Remove dead crickets regularly.
