Mediterranean Crickets – Live Feeder Insect (Two-Spotted Cricket, Gryllus bimaculatus)

The Mediterranean cricket, also called two-spotted cricket, is a robust representative of feeder insects suitable for both large and small terrarium animals. The Mediterranean cricket is an excellent live feed for practically all insectivorous animals. From the tiniest juvenile to the fully adult – nutritious, active, healthy and easy to handle. For terrarium animals, birds, small mammals and to a limited extent fish, it provides an ideal variety and high-quality protein source.

We offer Mediterranean crickets in 3 variants:

  • small
  • medium
  • Large – Adult

Benefits of Mediterranean crickets

  • Available in all sizes year-round

  • Excellent nutritional value: proteins, fat and minerals

  • Not very jumpy, also suitable for slower animals

  • Don’t hide immediately, easy to feed

  • Long shelf life

  • Appealing, attractive appearance with two light spots on the wings

Note: The crickets chirp loudly, can be aggressive, contain bitter substances and sometimes sit motionless. They have a strong shell and not every animal accepts them immediately.

Suitable for which animals?

  • Reptiles: Lizards, skinks, bearded dragons, monitors, geckos

  • Amphibians: Tree frogs, horned frogs

  • Birds: Insectivorous ornamental birds and poultry

  • Small mammals: Hedgehogs, tenrecs, shrews

  • Insectivorous fish (only large species)

From small juveniles (approx. 3 mm) to adult animals (up to 35 mm), there is suitable feed for every animal size.

Feeding recommendation

  • Only offer as many crickets as your animals can catch immediately

  • Micro-crickets are suitable for small animals, adult crickets for large pets

  • Optionally dust with vitamin and mineral powder before feeding

  • Use tweezers or place directly in the terrarium – the crickets rarely hide

  • Caution with this aggressive species: crickets can nibble on even small animals, so feed in a controlled manner

Benefits of live Mediterranean crickets

  • Active, healthy and nutritious

  • Stimulate the prey-catching reflex through their movements and chirping

  • Active day and night – easy to feed, even to slower animals

  • High-quality feed for all animal life stages

  • Wide size range from juveniles to adults

Storage notes

  • Delivery in hygienic transport boxes with egg cartons

  • Short-term storage: at 18–30 °C, dry and well ventilated

  • For longer storage: spacious boxes (e.g. Faunabox) with a slightly moistened cotton ball for hydration

  • Only feed as many crickets as needed to avoid overpopulation and nutrient loss

  • Avoid open water bowls as crickets may drown or wet the nests
